Best beaches in Devon

Devon is by far one of the most beautiful counties in England, with three national parks, medieval towns and sandy coastlines in the north and the south. Devon cannot be beaten on beaches, boasting glorious scenery wherever and whenever you visit. These are my 10 must visit beaches in Devon:

  1. Putsborough beach, near Croyde and Woolacombe is one of the finest beaches in the South West. With a shop, cafe, toilets, two caravan sites and parking it has all the amenities you'll need for a day or even a weekend at the beach. I have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets at Putsborough Beach

  2. East Portlemouth Beach is set in an area of outstanding national beauty and is part of a rather quiet set of beaches opposite the town of Salcombe. Visit one of its quaint beaches to get away from the crowds and enjoy a relaxed sunbathe, with all beaches been awarded safe bathing status so is suitable for families

  3. Beer beach is a shingle beach surrounded by limestone cliffs in the fishing village of Beer. Located on the Jurassic Coast in Devon, fossil hunting is definitely top on the list of activities to do when you visit. Public toilets and parking are situated nearby

  4. Clovelly beach is located in North Devon near Bideford and is famous for being once owned bythe Queen of England. Clovelly is a car free, historic village with the bay being particularly good for snorkelling. Everything you need for a day at the beach can be found within the village at the top of the hill

  5. Meadfoot Beach is a mile from Torquay harbour where you will find a promenade lined with colourful beach chalets, a rocky shingle cove and a popular beach cafe. Near Meadfoot beach you will find the Agatha Christie Mile where you can follow in her footsteps and also learn more about her life in Torquay Museum

  6. Sidmouth coastline is dominated by red cliffs which date back to the Triassic period. The beach is a family friendly beach ideal for rock climbing and a swim, with Jacobs ladder, a series of wooden steps, leading up from the beach to Connaught gardens providing beautiful views of the beach. Sidmouth is also great for walking, with the Millennium Walkway stretching along the esplanade

  7. Blackpool Sands is situated in South Devon near Dartmouth. Renowned for its crystal-clear waters and stunning backdrop of lush pine trees, this Blue Flag-awarded beach offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life

  8. Also situated in South Devon, Strete Gate Beach is a shingle beach where dogs are welcome all year round.

  9. Porlock Weir is situated in Exmoor National Park, and although it’s technically a harbour rather than a beach, it is perfect for paddle boarding

  10. Tunnel Beaches are a set of coves in Ilfracombe, only reachable by land through tunnels cut out in the rocks. The tunnels were carved by hand in 1823 by Welsh Miners. Tunnel Beaches also is one of the most beautiful wedding venues.

There are too many beautiful beaches in Devon to name, but these are some of my favourites!
